Dashcam

Post by egg » Tue Feb 16, 2016 9:01 am

Has anyone got a dashcam? Which 1? Halfraulds have a deal on at the moment with a Netbase 402 professional for £159 hard wired with sd card, case and fitted. Camera itself is voted best buy by which. Anyone have any thoughts?

I've been looking at the Transcend DrivePro 200 (£80). I read a lot of reviews, and in the end settled on the above. Not sure I need/want a dashcam yet though.

That NextBase you've listed doesn't have Wifi (which I would want), and does have GPS (which I don't want).

I was bought a 402G by the other half for Christmas - it' still in the box because I don't really want one in my car, and quite clearly told him not to buy me one. He doesn't listen...

Remote viewing (ie, playback/viewing on your phone). It's probably not all its cracked up to be, but it's something I would like.

As for not wanting GPS. This can be used to incriminate you, not that theres any chance of speeding in an ix35 :)

I have one fitted, a cheapo from ebay. It has served us well so much I bought one for my other car and my daughters. Then they started to pack in. So I have bought the 202 from Halfords - they have an on line deal just now so a great price.

Hi
I have been using Nextbase 402G for 1.5 years. Superb camera, and Costco are doing a deal complete with card for £129.And yes it records you own speed but you can turn this off. They have updated the battery in the latest batch ,which now makes it reliable. I had mine done free of charge by Nextbase. The battery in this camera only lasts 6mins and is not meant for powering for viewing. It is for keeping the system operational when the car power is not on.Hopefully you will never need to view your footage. Its the all seeing witness. Also you do not need to hard wire the unit, use the cars power socket and the camera starts and stops when you put the key in.The hard wiring is only needed when using the camera in motion mode for example parked. You would then have to manually stop and start the camera before driving. Go on line and have a read of all models on Nextbase website.
Good Hunting

I have the Nextbase 402 for a few years, paid for itself many times over. It does the job, the software is awful and the UI even worse. I have to hold hand hand over the lens to switch to play mode. Taking it off is a pain to save to PC. Next time I'll get a wifi one.

I use a Mobius, the size of a matchbox and hardly visible from outside the car. Recording quality matches a Go Pro easily and cost me £45 2 years ago.

I received an email today from Hyundai my dealership offering dashcam it was a philips ARD 810, £156 + £30 hard wiring. I am new owner of 2013 ix35. Have never had dashcam before, never needed it really but i suppose intodays world of conmen people stopping dead in front of you then claiming you ran into them etc it could be advantagious, and in some cases lower insurance.
I looked at model mentioned it has good write ups etc but its a mine field, and despite my age Im a babe in the woods with stuff like that, so if anyone looks at the model be interested to hear your views on this model and cams in general. will say that Halfords and amazon sell the sam model for £139.99.

I read many good reviews about the Blackvue, although it is quite pricey.

More research required , people tend to stick with the norm often mentioned brands normally just offering a standard 1080P full HD at over £100 , it's 2017 folks , 1440P 2K !

Viofo and Ddpai .

i10ist -

I have just moved to a Santa Fe from the Land Rover brigade and now have my Mobius to reinstall now.

Interested to know if there are any free ignition based fuse slots near front passenger areas in Hyundai's - I'm wading through the massive user manual which while informative does not cover much for the DIY enthusiast!
